The Holidays Are Near!

It is our last week before the holidays!

We have some exciting things this week at school!

Tomorrow, our families are invited for our Christmas Tea, from 1:15-2:45 pm.

On Wednesday, we get to go to the Christmas Store in the gym. (Parents: if you would like your child to purchase any little gifts from the Christmas Store, please send money with your child on Wednesday).

On Thursday, we will have our Christmas Concert: Christmas is aLIVE! We will be performing a Christmas song with our integration classes. Our parents are all welcome to come and watch at 1:00 pm!

Wishing all of our families a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Halloween and November!

As we come to the end of November, and start the season of Advent, we realize how much we have learned and celebrated in just three months of school!

To finish off October, we explored the inside of a pumpkin! We got a chance to look inside and even feel all the goop and seeds. Some of us enjoyed this a little more than others. Then, we carved the pumpkin and made a Jack-o-lantern for the class. :)

Our littlest friends went on a trip to Proulx Farm with the kindergarten classes. It was a very cold day but that didn't stop us from having fun and meeting lots of animals!

We celebrated a birthday too and got to eat some yummy cupcakes. Look at the fun balloons that our friend brought to school.

We made some really interesting bat art! We stuck bat shapes on our paper, sponged on some paint, and then removed the bat shapes. They turned out pretty cool.

We finished off our Halloween celebrations with a whole school costume parade! We all dressed up and accompanied the whole school in a parade through the halls. Everyone loved our costumes and we had fun seeing all our friends dressed up. One of us was even one of three that won best costume in the school!

To start off November, we celebrated another birthday! We even baked special banana chocolate chip muffins for it.

We joined our integration classes to attend Rocks and Rings and got to learn a little bit about curling. We practiced our sweeping with curling brooms and throwing the rocks.

One of our favourite days was PJ Day! We got to wear our cozy PJs all day at school. We definitely turned up the cute factor in our class that Friday.

We got to go to the gym for a fun performance by Kyle Dine. He is a food allergy musician. He taught us all about allergies and did this with fun songs and his puppet friends!

We spent a couple days making beautiful poppies for our Remembrance Day Class Wreath. We used coffee filters and painted them with red paint and sponges. We each painted two coffee filters. We had to let them dry for a while because we used lots of paint! Once they were dry, we crumpled them up but then had to flatten them out after.. just a little bit. We then glued one on top of the other and added a center. The layers made nice 3-D poppies! Our teachers helped make our poppies into a wreath which we brought up during the Remembrance Day Ceremony at school.

We used glue to write our names and then went wild with sparkles! Our teachers tell us that we are going to use these to display some of our art work in the classroom. We got to choose which colour of sparkles we wanted for our names.

On Wednesday, November 16th, our class gathered to celebrate the life of our friend who we lost on November 3rd. We were joined by her integration class, our buddies, some of our parents and her Mommy and Daddy. We planted a tree for her and decorated it with special wishes.

Last week we started some Christmas activities in our class. Since it started to snow, we thought it would be fun to play with some snow in the class too!

We also took our leaves off our windows and made some stain glass tissue paper candy canes to replace them! We each got to choose our candy cane stripes. You will soon get to see them in our windows!

On Thursday, we each got to go with our integration class to the Dance-A-Thon! We had a blast! We even got glow sticks to bring with us. Lots of us wore purple for Bully Prevention and Awareness Week.

On Friday we attended a volleyball game with our friends in the gym. The girls volleyball team played against the boys volleyball team first, then the teachers played against the boys and girls! It was fun to cheer on everyone!

The next four weeks leading up to the Christmas Holidays are bound to be busy, and we can't wait!!!

A Busy Month!

Wow. Times flies. November is almost here!

It has continued to be one busy classroom. The best kind of busy - full of learning and exploration!

During our fourth week of school we celebrated an early birthday for one of our friends! I think they all liked the sparkler.

We made beautiful fall "stain glass" leaves out of tissue paper. They look beautiful in our classroom windows!

We also attempted to make some orange slime. Unfortunately our slime did not turn out the way we had hoped. We learned a valuable lesson: things don't always work out the way we planned but that doesn't stop us! We may not have had the chance to play with the slime (this time) but the journey to making it was fun and we will try it again!

The following week we welcomed a new friend to our class!

We had the whole gang out for the Terry Fox Run. We were blessed with beautiful weather while we walked with our school around the neighbourhood.

We also celebrated our own little Thanksgiving by making Turkey Pumpkins! We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with their family, friends and Turkey Pumpkin!

Upon returning after the long weekend, to get into the Halloween spirit each of us decorated a specific letter, in a creative way, to spell Halloween! Check out our awesome wall outside our class!

To keep with the pumpkin theme, we baked delicious pumpkin pancakes. Mmm, the class had a wonderful smell that day.

Last week, we made orange play-dough and some not-so-spooky ghosts out of cotton balls. They were soft to touch and made the ghosts look very cool!

This coming week we have lots of fun things planned! We can't wait!!

A Busy Week!

Last week we had a lot of fun.

We made some special sensory balls that resemble apples! Some of us filled a red balloon with oatmeal, some with rocks, others with flour or play-dough. We tied them off with some green ribbon.

Our baking activity this week was a yummy Apple Crisp. Not only did we get to mix all the dry ingredients, we got to peel, core and cut the apples with a fun spiral cutter! To do this we had to turn a crank.

With some of our leftover apples, we made some art! We cut the apples, dipped them in paint and used them as stamps.

Throughout our week we enjoyed our time in integration with new friends and all our activities in our classroom!
